Microsoft Launches Copilot Health Feature

Microsoft introduced Copilot Health on Thursday, March 12, 2026, a new feature within its Copilot AI assistant designed to help users manage personal health data. This tool allows individuals to connect medical records from over 50,000 U.S. hospitals and healthcare organizations via HealthEx, import lab results through Function, and integrate data from more than 50 wearable devices, including Apple, Oura, and Fitbit.

Copilot Health aims to assist users in understanding health information, such as deciphering lab test results and locating healthcare providers based on specialty, location, language, and insurance plans. Microsoft states the feature is not intended for medical diagnoses or treatment. The company emphasizes that user chats are isolated from general Copilot interactions and are subject to additional access, privacy, and safety controls, with data not used for AI model training. Users retain the ability to delete health data or disconnect data sources.

While Microsoft highlights improved answer quality through information from credible health organizations across 50 countries and citations from sources like Harvard Health, Copilot Health currently lacks HIPAA compliance. This contrasts with similar offerings like OpenAI's ChatGPT for Healthcare and Amazon's Health AI, which are HIPAA-compliant or HIPAA-ready.
