Lucid Unveils Lunar Robotaxi Concept

Lucid Group introduced its Lunar Concept, an autonomous robotaxi platform, at its New York investor day event in March 2026. This move positions Lucid to directly compete in the autonomous ride-hailing market, challenging Tesla's Cybercab.

The Lunar concept, built on Lucid's new Midsize EV platform, features a two-seat design without driver controls, prioritizing fleet economics. The platform incorporates Lucid's redesigned Atlas electric drive unit, engineered for smaller size, lighter weight, and cost-effective manufacturing at scale. Unlike Tesla's approach of building its own ride-hailing network, Lucid is reportedly in advanced discussions with Uber to deploy Midsize platform vehicles.

Tesla first introduced its robotaxi concept in April 2019, with the Cybercab unveiled in October 2024. Tesla is currently ramping up road testing and validation for the Cybercab, aiming for mass production with a target of one vehicle every 10 seconds. Lucid also outlined a recurring software revenue model for Lunar, including an in-vehicle AI assistant and monthly autonomous driving subscriptions ranging from $69 to $199.
