Jio IPO demand exceeds anchor book by 30 times

More than 70 institutions registered interest before the planned Oct. 21 opening, pointing to a crowded book for the Indian listing.

Jio IPO demand exceeds anchor book by 30 times

Jio Platforms' planned Rs 30,188 crore IPO drew about Rs 2.5 lakh crore in anchor bids by Oct. 19, more than 30 times the size of the anchor book ahead of its Indian market debut.

The demand came from more than 70 investors, including global asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, domestic mutual funds and insurers, according to offer details. The level of interest gives the company a stronger starting point before books open to wider investors.

Jio anchor book demand

Anchor investors are institutions that commit before an IPO opens to the broader market, helping issuers set early demand and pricing expectations. In Jio's case, the indicated anchor demand is far above the Rs 30,188 crore offer size, suggesting the company may enter the public subscription period with a crowded institutional book.

For India’s equity market, the deal is a test of appetite for large technology and telecom-linked listings. Heavy anchor interest can support sentiment around new issues, but final allocation, pricing and post-listing trading will determine whether the demand translates into durable market value.

The next dated step is the IPO opening on Oct. 21.

If the institutional demand holds through allocation, Jio may gain pricing support; if orders are scaled back before listing, the broader IPO market will have a narrower signal from the anchor book.
