Jio IPO demand draws about $28 billion in bids

Anchor bids from global funds point to institutional appetite for India’s equity pipeline before final pricing.

Jio IPO demand draws about $28 billion in bids

Jio Platforms’ planned IPO drew 2.5 trillion rupees in anchor bids on Tuesday, data showed, putting one of India’s largest digital businesses at the center of institutional equity demand.

The order interest included global investors such as BlackRock Global Funds, Capital Group, Fidelity, New World Fund and American Funds Developing World Growth and Income Fund, data showed. Anchor bids are early institutional orders placed before a wider public offering; they can help establish demand but do not by themselves set final pricing or allocation.

Jio anchor book broadens

Other overseas participants included Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Janus Henderson, Societe Generale, Morgan Stanley Investment Funds, Norway’s Government Pension Fund Global, Citadel Securities Singapore, Eastspring Investments, T. Rowe Price, Prudential Hong Kong and Integrated Core Strategies (Asia), data showed.

The scale of the anchor book gives equity investors a marker for foreign appetite toward Indian listings at a time when large domestic offerings can affect fund flows, index positioning and sector valuations. For Jio Platforms, a deep institutional book would give the company more flexibility on pricing if demand holds through allocation.

If the anchor demand converts into firm allocations, the deal could support India’s IPO pipeline by giving other issuers a reference point for global fund interest. If demand narrows before pricing, the transaction would offer a cleaner read on how price-sensitive overseas investors have become toward Indian growth assets.

Over the next 24 hours from Oct. 20, investors will watch for allocation and pricing details from Jio Platforms or its advisers.
