Huntsville and Colorado Springs unite over Space Command move

City leaders from Huntsville and Colorado Springs said they have begun coordinating over two linked defense moves: the Golden Dome missile defense project and the planned relocation of U.S. Space Command headquarters to Alabama. Officials framed the talks as an effort to align local priorities as the federal process advances.

Golden Dome and Space Command

Officials said Huntsville’s and Colorado Springs’s leaders discussed logistics, workforce impacts and federal funding timelines for the Golden Dome program and the Space Command transition. The discussions, they added, aim to present a united front to defense planners as decisions around basing, construction and personnel are refined.

Officials cautioned that major choices remain at the federal level and that local cooperation does not guarantee outcomes. They said the talks focused on minimizing disruption to existing installations in Colorado Springs while maximizing economic and national security benefits for Alabama.

Officials said they expect to provide a public update within 30 days. The follow-up will show whether the two cities have reached specific agreements on coordination, requests for funding, or proposals for personnel transfers, and it will shape how defense planners weigh competing local bids.
