Google's new Gemini Intelligence features, announced this week, will necessitate advanced hardware specifications for Android devices, potentially excluding recent models like the Pixel 9 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 7. These features, which include enhanced autofill, an upgraded Gboard voice-to-text system called 'Rambler,' and 'Create my Widget,' are designed for premium Android devices.

The minimum requirements for Gemini Intelligence include a flagship chip, at least 12GB of RAM, and support for AI Core and Gemini Nano v3 or higher. Additionally, devices must be eligible for a minimum of five Android OS upgrades and six years of quarterly security updates, alongside meeting specific quality standards regarding crash rates.

The Nano v3 requirement is particularly restrictive, as Google's developer page indicates that most devices supporting it are 2026 releases, with exceptions such as the Pixel 10 series and Oppo Find X9 series.

This specification barrier means that many current high-end Android phones, including the Pixel 9 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which utilize Nano v2, will not be compatible with Gemini Intelligence upon its release. Google plans to debut Gemini Intelligence on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices later this year, with reports suggesting the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be among the first to integrate these new capabilities.
