Electronic Arts said in an Oct. 12 press release that AFC Richmond Women will debut in EA Sports FC 27 through its renewed partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

The move broadens Ted Lasso’s presence in EA’s football game from a returning fictional club to a playable women’s squad across 3 major areas: Career Mode, Football Ultimate Team and Online Seasons.

EA said AFC Richmond Women will sit within Women’s Rest of World, the in-game grouping used for women’s teams outside the game’s main licensed league structures. Players will be able to select the side in Kick Off, Career and Online Seasons.

Nelson Road, the club’s fictional home ground, is also returning as an in-game stadium, according to the announcement. That gives players a setting for both playing matches and managing the club at the venue associated with the Ted Lasso series.

“Ted Lasso celebrates the power of football to bring people together, and that’s exactly what FC 27 is built for,” Jeff Sharma, VP, Brand, EA Sports FC, said in the press release. “FC 27 gives players more ways than ever to play and connect, and AFC Richmond is the perfect club to welcome them in.”

In Manager Career Mode, EA said players can take control of AFC Richmond Women as Ted Lasso. The publisher said the mode will include social-media stories, cutscenes, touchline interactions and themed Challenges tied to the collaboration.

Football Ultimate Team, EA’s mode built around collecting players and items, will add Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond Objectives, according to the release. EA said those Objectives will offer themed Kits, Stadium Cosmetics, Manager Items and other rewards, while also contributing to Season Progress.

The announcement gives EA another crossover built around a widely recognized television football property, while also extending the fictional Richmond universe into women’s football inside FC 27. The press release did not disclose financial terms for the Warner Bros. arrangement, platform details, a release date for the content or any usage data from earlier Ted Lasso appearances in the franchise.

Abbie Hern, who appears as part of the Lady Greyhounds squad in FC 27, said the fictional club has become “more than just a fictional club” for fans. “Giving people a way to play and connect with the Women’s team on the pitch in FC 27 feels like a wonderful next chapter, and I hope players enjoy making us part of their football stories,” she said.
