Chargers Sign Brenen Thompson to Complete 2024 Draft Class

The Los Angeles Chargers completed their 2024 NFL Draft signing class on Thursday, agreeing terms with fourth-round wide receiver Brenen Thompson. The club said the deal finalizes the team’s rookie acquisitions from this year’s draft. Thompson becomes the eighth and final drafted player to sign with the Chargers.

Thompson played his final college season at Mississippi State, where he posted 1,054 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 57 catches. The yardage total led the Southeastern Conference, and he earned second-team All-SEC honors.

The Chargers had previously signed the rest of their draft picks, including first-round edge rusher Akheem Mesidor and second-round center Jake Slaughter. The class also includes fourth-round offensive tackle Travis Burke, fourth-round safety Genesis Smith, fifth-round defensive tackle Nick Barrett, sixth-round offensive guard Logan Taylor and sixth-round offensive tackle Alex Harkey.

College production and path to the NFL

Thompson’s college career spanned three programs. He spent time at Texas and Oklahoma before transferring to Mississippi State.

Across 30 career games with Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Texas, Thompson totaled 1,557 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 84 receptions, according to figures provided with the signing announcement. His final-season production at Mississippi State marked his most productive year statistically.

What comes next for the rookie class

With all eight draft picks under contract, the Chargers can bring their full class into offseason work and training-camp preparation. Thompson and the rest of the rookies will compete for roster spots and roles as the team moves toward the start of the 2024 season.
