United States President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, announced the birth of their fourth child on Sunday at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The infant, named Alec Neel Vance, is the first child born to a sitting president in more than 150 years.
The birth marks a historical milestone for the executive branch, as the last instance of a sitting president becoming a father occurred in 1870 with the birth of Schuyler Colfax III to then-President Schuyler Colfax. The Vance family, who met at Yale Law School, now includes four children: Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel, and the newborn, Alec.
Vance has frequently utilized his public platform to advocate for increased birth rates in the United States, citing demographic concerns as a central theme of his political career. The arrival of the child follows a trend of recent births among senior members of the Trump administration, including families of deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
