US Retirement Wealth Projected to Soar 77%

U.S. Retirement Wealth Could Increase 77% U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, April 30, 2026, establishing a new mechanism for Americans without employer-sponsored retirement plans to save for retirement. This initiative, coupled with potential legislative action, could increase cumulative U.S. retirement wealth by up to 77%, or $1.35 trillion, over the next decade, according to a Morningstar study.

The executive order directs the creation of TrumpIRA.gov, a website launching in 2027, where workers can access private-sector individual retirement accounts. These accounts will integrate with the federal Saver's Match program, allowing eligible lower-income individuals to receive up to $1,000 annually in matching government contributions. Approximately 56 million Americans currently lack access to workplace retirement plans, and 48.8 million do not receive an employer match.

The administration is seeking congressional support for legislation to expand the program's reach and increase the matching contributions. Proposed bills from 2025, such as the Retirement Savings for Americans Act and the Automatic IRA Act, offer frameworks for such reforms. These legislative actions, if enacted, could significantly enhance retirement savings for a substantial portion of the American workforce.
