Thunder, Pistons take 2-0 leads in NBA playoff series

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons both took 2-0 leads in their respective NBA playoff series on Thursday, May 8, 2026.

Thunder 125, Lakers 107 (West semifinal) The Thunder beat the Los Angeles Lakers 125-107 in Oklahoma City to move two wins from the Western Conference finals.

Oklahoma City forced 21 turnovers and used a decisive 22-5 run asourceser the Lakers briefly led early in the third quarter. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 22 points, with Chet Holmgren adding 22 points and nine rebounds and Ajay Mitchell scoring 20.

For the Lakers, LeBron James scored 23 points in his 300th career playoff game. The series now shisourcess to Los Angeles for games three and four.

Pistons 107, Cavaliers 97 (East) In the Eastern Conference, top-seeded Detroit also went up 2-0 with a 107-97 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 25 points and 10 assists, scoring 12 of his points in the fourth quarter. Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points for Cleveland.

Detroit led 54-43 at halsourcesime, but the Cavaliers briefly moved in front early in the fourth quarter before the Pistons regained control. The series moves to Cleveland for games three and four.
