Chad le Clos Breaks Commonwealth Games Medal Record in Glasgow

South African swimmer Chad le Clos made history at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by securing his 19th career medal, making him the most decorated male athlete in the event's history. This milestone was achieved with a bronze medal in the men’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay, where he competed alongside teammates Pieter Coetze, Guy Brooks, and Ruard van Renen.

Surpassing Previous Records

The achievement by the 34-year-old surpasses the previous record of 18 medals, jointly held by Australian shooter Phil Adams and English shooter Mick Gault. Le Clos, who first participated in the 2010 New Delhi Games, has now amassed a total of seven gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals across five editions of the competition.

A Distinguished Career Continues

This record-breaking feat adds to Le Clos's already distinguished career, which includes 16 world titles and four Olympic medals. He is set to continue competing in the current Games, with upcoming appearances in the 50-meter and 100-meter butterfly events. Le Clos has also indicated his intention to extend his competitive career through to the 2028 Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Los Angeles.
