Pokemon releases 30th anniversary card collection to collectors

Collectors lined up outside shops across Paris on Wednesday as retail locations opened sales for the new Pokémon trading card expansion produced for the franchise's 30th anniversary. Long queues formed inside shopping centers and along exterior sidewalks, with lines snaking through commercial complexes as crowds of fans waited to purchase the newly released products.

The anniversary expansion, which officially debuted on September 16, incorporates rare new illustrations alongside select card reissues drawn from the original Classic Collection. Each booster pack included in the release contains five shiny cards, featuring a shiny basic Energy card as well as one card from a set of 30 distinct Pikachu cards, each showcasing different artwork created for the milestone.

Retail Restrictions Implemented to Manage High Demand

Unprecedented customer interest prompted French retailers to introduce strict purchasing restrictions aimed at maintaining orderly sales and distributing available inventory across a larger number of buyers. Store operators established dedicated queuing systems inside and outside locations to handle the influx of shoppers arriving for the launch.

Store Policies Cap Purchases Per Customer

As part of the crowd control measures, retail chain Fnac required customers seeking the new expansion to line up in designated queues, while capping individual sales at one or two products per person. Additional retail outlets across France implemented similar quantity limits on their stock to prevent early sell-outs and allow more collectors access to the anniversary items.

The French release comes 30 years after Pokémon and its trading card game were first introduced to the public in Japan. The commemorative anniversary product range is being rolled out to collectors globally as part of worldwide celebrations marking three decades of the franchise.
