F1 and FIA extend Pirelli’s exclusive tyre supply deal through 2028
Pirelli will remain the exclusive tyre supplier for Formula 1 and its associated championships until 2028, extending a long-standing technical partnership.

Formula 1 and the FIA have extended Pirelli’s exclusive tyre supply agreement through the end of the 2028 season, exercising an option in the current contract. The extension keeps Pirelli as the single supplier for the FIA Formula One World Championship and also covers the FIA Formula 2 Championship, the FIA Formula 3 Championship and F1 ACADEMY. The parties said the extension was agreed by mutual consent.
Pirelli has been Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier since 2011. Officials framed the latest extension as a stability measure as the sport moves into regulations introduced at the start of the 2026 season.
The Italian manufacturer’s involvement in the championship dates back to the inaugural 1950 season, underlining the longevity of the relationship as teams and series plan across multiple seasons under a single-supplier framework.
The contract extension was announced on June 11, 2026.
Scope of the deal across F1’s feeder categories
Under the extended terms, Pirelli will continue supplying tyres for Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 ACADEMY until the end of 2028. The deal was enacted via an existing contractual option rather than a new tender process, according to the announcement.
Officials said continuity on tyres supports competition planning and event operations, including performance targets and safety requirements. The FIA said the partnership fits into its broader framework for performance and safety in the championship.
Development role and the 500-race milestone
Formula 1 and the FIA also pointed to the tyre programme’s role as a development platform, where work across circuits, conditions and compound choices feeds into research and development. They said that work contributes to progress in tyre design, materials, production processes and sustainability beyond motorsport.
The extension follows Pirelli passing the milestone of supplying 500 Grands Prix, highlighting the scale of its modern-era involvement as the exclusive supplier.
With the supplier set through 2028, attention is expected to focus on how tyre development priorities evolve within the 2026-era rules over the next several seasons.
