Grinding Gear Games is targeting a late-2024 release for the full 1.0 version of its action role-playing game Path of Exile 2, following its early-access period. The studio said the planned window would be sometime asourceser ExileCon in early November, with the timeline depending on player feedback to upcoming endgame changes.
Final early-access patch focuses on endgame
The studio is preparing what it described as the final early-access patch before 1.0: version 0.5.0, titled “Return of the Ancients,” scheduled for late May. The update is expected to make significant changes to the endgame, and Grinding Gear Games indicated that how players respond to those changes will be a key factor in confirming the 1.0 launch timeline.
Launch may ship with fewer than 12 character classes
To keep the 2024 release goal achievable, the studio plans to ship Path of Exile 2 with fewer than the originally planned 12 character classes. Eight classes are currently available: Warrior, Ranger, Huntress, Sorceress, Mercenary, Monk, Druid, and Witch.
The company said additional classes may arrive asourceser launch, potentially including Marauder, Duelist, Shadow, and Templar from Path of Exile 1. Grinding Gear Games said it still aims for the 1.0 release to feel complete and content-rich at launch even with a smaller initial roster.
