Packaging Compliance Labs adds 3 Instron systems to pharma lab

Packaging Compliance Labs said in an Oct. 13 press release it acquired and installed 3 Instron Universal Testing Systems for its new pharmaceutical and device testing lab in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The company said the equipment expands its support for life-sciences clients working on autoinjectors, prefilled syringes and sterile hypodermic needles after renovations to its headquarters finished in September.

"Our clients have asked us to expand upon our core services and provide further support for pharmaceutical projects," Matt Lapham, PCL's chief executive officer, said in the press release. "With this investment we're ready to provide the testing support our clients need to bring novel therapies to market."

PCL said the core platforms are based on Instron's Model 6800 Series and support the full suite of ISO 11040 series tests for prefilled syringes. ISO standards are international technical benchmarks used to assess whether products and processes meet defined requirements.

The company also said it acquired Instron's latest-generation Autoinjector Testing System, which can perform functionality testing on autoinjectors and safety syringes and measure drug-delivery outputs tied to ISO 11608 standards.

Instron, a wholly owned subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works Inc., makes equipment used for material and structural testing. PCL said it provides testing, engineering and contract-packaging services for medical-device and pharmaceutical customers.
