Nvidia Corp. has officially certified all three major memory chip manufacturers to provide their most advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products for its AI accelerators. CEO Jensen Huang confirmed that Samsung Electronics Co., SK Hynix Inc., and Micron Technology Inc. are now qualified suppliers.
This qualification pertains to HBM4, a critical component for Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin platform, designed for artificial intelligence workloads. The three chipmakers, collectively dominant in the global memory market, are engaged in fierce competition for contracts in this highly profitable sector.
HBM4: A Critical Component
Huang, during his recent visit to Seoul, stated, "All three vendors have been qualified." He further elaborated that all three are currently in production and actively ramping up efforts to support the Vera Rubin platform.
The highly anticipated Vera Rubin platform, featuring Nvidia's Vera central processing units and Rubin graphics cores, is set for initial deliveries in the third quarter of this year. Each server system within this new architecture will integrate terabytes of HBM4.
Production Ramps Up for Vera Rubin
The announcement from Huang at the Computex trade show in Taiwan underscored that the Vera Rubin platform is now in full production. This move to diversify HBM4 sourcing is a strategic step for Nvidia.
Reliance on multiple key memory suppliers mitigates potential supply chain risks and ensures a robust pipeline for its next-generation AI hardware. The intense demand for AI infrastructure necessitates consistent access to cutting-edge memory solutions.
Market Implications and Future Supply
The certification of all three major HBM producers highlights the growing maturity and competition in the advanced memory market. This development could lead to increased innovation and potentially more favorable pricing for major consumers like Nvidia.
For investors, this signals strong demand for high-performance memory, benefiting tickers like Samsung (005930.KS), SK Hynix (000660.KS), and Micron (MU). The consistent supply of crucial components like HBM4 is paramount for Nvidia (NVDA) as it continues to dominate the AI accelerator market.
