49ers Appoint New Defensive Coordinator The San Francisco 49ers have appointed Raheem Morris as their new defensive coordinator, effective February. Morris, previously with the Atlanta Falcons, aims to help the 49ers secure their first Super Bowl victory under coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, with whom he has long-standing professional relationships. Morris's appointment follows the departure of Robert Saleh, who accepted the head coaching position with the Tennessee Titans. Morris and Shanahan first worked together in 2004 as quality control coaches for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and later reunited in Washington (2012-2013) and Atlanta (2015-2016).

Morris expressed his commitment to contributing to the team's success, citing his personal connection with Shanahan and Lynch, who played for the Buccaneers during Morris's early coaching tenure. His previous experience includes a Super Bowl LVI win as defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. The move is intended to bolster the 49ers' defensive strategy as they pursue a championship.
