Micron Reaches $1 Trillion Valuation Amid AI Boom

Micron Technology Inc. briefly surpassed a $1 trillion market capitalization on Tuesday, May 26, marking its entry into an exclusive group of companies. This milestone reflects the increasing demand for memory chips driven by the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

The company's shares rose by 17.4% to $881.6, following an earlier peak of 19.3%. This surge occurred after UBS increased its price target for Micron's stock from $535 to $1,625, the highest among 46 brokerages. Micron, a U.S.-based memory chipmaker, now joins South Korea's Samsung Electronics in exceeding the $1 trillion valuation, with SK Hynix also approaching this threshold.

Micron's market performance underscores the critical role of memory chips in AI infrastructure, as investors broaden their focus beyond graphics processor manufacturers to include companies providing essential components for data centers. The company has reported that its entire 2026 supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips is already sold out, indicating strong demand and a supply crunch that has led to price increases. Micron's next-generation HBM4 products are currently in production.
