Calvin Johnson tabs Puka Nacua as top threat to his receiving mark

Calvin Johnson said Monday he believes Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is the player most likely to eventually challenge his NFL single-season record for receiving yards. Johnson also said he is surprised his record has not already fallen since the NFL expanded the regular season to 17 games in 2021. He called it “a matter of time,” and suggested the benchmark would be even more vulnerable if the league eventually moves to an 18-game schedule.

Johnson said he initially thought Jefferson might be the player to surpass him, but suggested quarterback uncertainty can make record pursuits harder to sustain. For Nacua, he said the combination of staying healthy and continuing to build with Stafford could keep the record within reach over time.
