Apple is reviewing two different design paths for the iPhone 18 Pro’s Dynamic Island, according to a Weibo leaker who posted on April 9, 2026. The report says Apple is weighing whether to keep the current screen mold or shift to a “Mini Dynamic Island” concept that would place Face ID components beneath the display.

The same account said the smaller cutout option is not yet locked in, indicating the final hardware layout remains under evaluation. If Apple chooses the “Mini Dynamic Island” route, the leaker described it as roughly 35% smaller than the iPhone 17 Pro’s Dynamic Island, making it one of the most visible rumored exterior changes for the next Pro model.

On the back of the device, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to keep the rectangular camera plateau used the prior year, the leaker said. While the overall camera area is not described as changing shape, the report points to smaller refinements elsewhere, including adjustments to body materials and design details.

Those tweaks are described as aiming for a more uniform look, moving away from the iPhone 17 Pro’s two-tone appearance and toward a more seamless integration of aluminum and glass. The leaker also said different color options are expected, though no specific finishes were listed.

What it means for markets and the wider industry is that Apple appears to be pursuing an iterative design cycle for the iPhone 18 Pro, consistent with a pattern of smaller updates after a major redesign, as described in the report.

For suppliers and manufacturing partners, the choice between retaining the current screen mold and adopting a smaller Dynamic Island with under-display Face ID components could influence component sourcing and production planning, because the front-facing sensor arrangement is central to display and assembly decisions.

For consumers and carriers, the Dynamic Island decision would likely shape the most noticeable external difference between generations, based on the leaker’s framing. However, the report also underscores uncertainty: Apple is still evaluating options, and the final decision on the Dynamic Island’s size and implementation has not been finalized.

Until Apple confirms specifications, the iPhone 18 Pro’s front design remains a key open question, while the rear camera plateau is expected to stay consistent with the previous year alongside smaller material and finish changes.
