Istanbul flood toll rises to 6 as crews search for missing person
The governor’s office said a missing man’s body was found near Ayvansaray Ferry Terminal, leaving one person still unaccounted for.

Istanbul’s flood death toll rose to six on Monday, Oct. 19, after a missing man’s body was found near Ayvansaray Ferry Terminal, the Istanbul Governor’s Office said in a statement.
The discovery leaves one person still reported missing, compared with six deaths cited by the governor’s office, as emergency and municipal teams continue recovery work after heavy rain on Oct. 14.
The body was found at about 7:30 a.m., the governor’s office said. An initial examination identified the man as Haşim Ciritlioğlu, who had been listed as missing after the flooding.
“The death toll from the flooding has risen to 6, while search efforts continue for one remaining missing person,” the statement said.
The Oct. 14 rainfall flooded homes and businesses, damaged roads and triggered landslides in several districts, according to the report. Streams overflowed and mud and debris reached residential areas.
Authorities have been carrying out search-and-rescue operations, assessing damage, cleaning affected neighborhoods and repairing infrastructure, the report said. Atlas360 reported Oct. 15 that the governor’s office had also announced school closures and a two-wheeler ban after the rainfall.
The next step is the continuing search for the remaining person reported missing, alongside municipal cleanup and repair work in affected parts of the city.
