BCCI to Review T20 Performance After Consecutive Losses

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will initiate a formal performance review of its T20 team following a series of recent defeats in Ireland and England. The announcement was made by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Friday. This decision comes after India's nine-wicket loss in the fourth T20 match at Trent Bridge, which secured an unassailable 3-0 series lead for England.

India has now incurred five consecutive Twenty20 International defeats, including a 2-0 series whitewash against Ireland last month. The team's recent poor run saw them dismissed for just 76 runs in Nottingham, leading to a 125-run loss. The comprehensive review is scheduled to occur after the England tour concludes on July 19 and will involve core team members and the coaching staff, led by Gautam Gambhir.

Recent Slump Follows World Cup Success

The current decline in form sharply contrasts with India's T20 World Cup victory achieved in March. Despite this, officials have described the current slump as a temporary setback. They noted that the absence of key players like fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, both undergoing injury management, has been a contributing factor.

Focus on Southampton and ODI Series

The team is currently preparing for the fifth and final T20 match in Southampton, which is scheduled for Saturday. Following this, India will participate in a three-match One Day International (ODI) series against England. The BCCI's review will aim to address the issues that have led to the team's performance challenges in the recent T20 matches.
