Hungary’s Orbán Concedes, Citing Clear but ‘Painful’ Election Result

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán acknowledged defeat as he addressed supporters in Budapest, conceding that the outcome of the election was both clear and unfavorable for his party.

Speaking after preliminary results emerged, Orbán said that while the final count was still pending, the direction of the vote was unmistakable. He described the result as “painful” for his Fidesz party, noting that voters had not granted them the mandate to govern.

Orbán added that he had already congratulated the winning side. Despite the setback, Orbán emphasized that Fidesz would remain active in public life, pledging to serve Hungary from the opposition benches.
