The earlier-than-usual approach is being framed as a way to get ahead of a rising market for top wide receivers. Next contract focus: a top young cornerback

After completing the Smith-Njigba extension, the Seahawks are expected to turn attention to cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Witherspoon is also a 2023 first-round pick, and his potential agreement is being discussed in relation to the recent four-year, $124 million extension signed by Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie.

Whether Witherspoon’s eventual terms exceed that McDuffie figure remains unknown, and no timeline or negotiation details were provided. What is clear from the sequence is that Seattle has begun addressing premium-position contracts earlier than it has in some prior cycles.
