Hood Warfare 2 rides $5 Steam launch into viral clips

Trapstar Games’ Hood Warfare 2, a roughly $5 Steam shooter released Oct. 8, drew viral clips and Call of Duty comparisons, Dexerto reported in an Oct. 12 trade-press article.

The breakout matters because low-priced PC games can find players quickly through creator clips; one X video from Rainbow Six Siege pro Merc surpassed 5 million views after launch.

Hood Warfare 2 uses familiar multiplayer shooter building blocks: two sides, deathmatch-style play and urban maps set in Chicago. Dexerto said the game includes killstreaks, class creation and a screen layout that players compared with Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare entries.

The mode list also leans into recognizable shooter templates. Dexerto described Turf War as a Domination-style mode, GangBang as Team Deathmatch, Chaos as free-for-all, Hit a Lick as Capture the Flag, Destroy the Block as Search and Destroy, and Chain Snatch as Kill Confirmed.

Merc’s clip showed a killstreak that unlocked a “Snitch” ability, which Dexerto compared with Call of Duty’s UAV, a tool that reveals enemy positions. Merc said on X: “They have a drive-by kill streak that s*it funny as hell; they bumpin music and shooting out the window.”

Other X posts cited by Dexerto praised sniping and movement, with some users saying they preferred Hood Warfare 2 to the upcoming Modern Warfare 4. Those are player reactions, not verified measures of game quality or player retention.

The game’s Steam page lists Trapstar Games as developer, according to Dexerto. Dexerto also said Hood Warfare 2 had reached a “Mostly Positive” Steam review status, while adding that some users found it entertaining only for a short time.

No sales total, concurrent-player count or console plan was reported. The next test is whether social-video heat converts into sustained Steam activity beyond the launch-week joke-and-curiosity cycle.
