Hong Kong Approves Tuition Fee Increases for Non-Public Schools

The Hong Kong Education Bureau has authorized tuition fee increases for the 2026-27 academic year across three non-public school categories. Private schools are permitted an average increase of 4.75 percent, while Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools and international schools are authorized for hikes of 4.07 percent and 4 percent, respectively.

These adjustments follow the review of 185 applications submitted by the end of August. The approved cohort includes 49 DSS schools, 74 private schools, and 62 international institutions.

Regulatory requirements mandate that schools must demonstrate stakeholder consultation before implementing these fee adjustments. This policy shift reflects ongoing operational cost pressures within the private education sector and may impact household expenditure for families utilizing these institutions.
