Google has denied claims that Android is about to adopt an Apple-style “Liquid Glass” interface, asourceser a teaser video for an upcoming Android event sparked comparisons online.
The controversy followed a short promotional clip showing Android’s robot mascot, “The Bot,” shisourcesing from its usual green color to a transparent, glass-like appearance. The visual prompted social media users to draw parallels with Apple’s Liquid Glass aesthetic, which has been used across iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
Android head Samir Sumaidaie responded publicly that a Liquid Glass look for Android is “not happening.” Some observers, including tech journalists, remain skeptical, arguing that the teaser imagery closely resembles Apple’s design language.
Google has spent years developing its own Material Design system for Android. Its latest iteration, Material 3 Expressive, emphasizes usability and visual clarity. While Google is expected to introduce additional blur effects in Android 17, commentators note that blur alone is not the same as Apple’s broader Liquid Glass approach, which involves more than transparency and background blurring.
Apple’s Liquid Glass interface has drawn mixed reactions from users since its introduction.
