Pickens reported for the Cowboys’ mandatory minicamp and said he will take part in training camp. By attending the three-day minicamp, he avoids a mandatory fine of $107,911 that applies if a player misses the full session.

The receiver did not participate in the team’s voluntary offseason program, with the decision attributed to guidance from his agent. Signing the tag removed immediate uncertainty about his spring attendance and allowed Dallas to move forward with its offseason schedule.

Pickens also indicated his priority is playing football, while contract discussions are being handled by his representation. The comments came during minicamp as the tagged year became official following his signature.

The Cowboys have said they will not negotiate a long-term contract with Pickens while he is playing under the franchise tag. Officials also indicated the club has no plans to trade him.
