Former NBA Players Indicted in Betting Scheme
Two former NBA players face federal charges for allegedly manipulating game statistics to profit from a sports betting scheme.

Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis were indicted Monday on federal charges involving an alleged sports betting conspiracy. The indictment, unsealed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, names six defendants, including an NBA player agent, in connection with a scheme to manipulate game statistics for financial gain.
Prosecutors allege that Beasley, who played nine seasons in the league, intentionally underperformed in at least three games during the 2023-24 season while with the Milwaukee Bucks. The scheme reportedly involved Beasley accepting bribes to reduce his statistical output, specifically targeting rebounding prop bets, to settle gambling debts owed to Davis.
According to court documents, the conspirators placed wagers totaling tens of thousands of dollars based on these predetermined performance outcomes.
The investigation highlights a significant breach of league integrity, as the defendants allegedly leveraged their status to influence betting lines. While Davis and three other co-defendants were taken into custody on Monday, Beasley and agent Paolo Zamorano remained at large as of Monday morning. The NBA has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the charges or potential disciplinary actions against the individuals involved.
