Davie police reopen battery investigation involving Jets QB Geno Smith

Police in Davie, Florida, are again treating a battery complaint involving New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith as an active investigation after initially indicating the matter was not active earlier in the week. Officials said Tuesday that detectives are now conducting a further review of the incident reported Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to Smith’s home after a woman who said she is his former girlfriend dialed 911 and reported that she had been assaulted. Police said no one was arrested or taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities said Monday that the matter was “not an active case” while it remained under review. A police spokesperson later clarified Tuesday that, during that review, the case was determined to require further investigation by detectives and is now active. Officials said they would not release additional information while the investigation continues.

Video and 911 call cited in complaint

The complainant later posted video of a dispute with Smith on social media and alleged that physical violence occurred during the encounter. The video includes the woman saying on camera that Smith “ran outside and attacked me,” according to the source material.

Audio of the 911 call was also reported to have been obtained by a third party, with the caller described as tearful while reporting an assault. The Davie Police Department has not publicly detailed evidence beyond confirming the investigative status and that no arrest was made at the time officers responded.

Jets and Smith have not commented publicly

Smith, 35, has not issued a public statement addressing the allegation, and the Jets have declined to comment on the police matter. The quarterback previously played for the Jets from 2013 to 2016 and was reacquired in a March trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, after which he was named the team’s starter for the 2026 season.

The woman’s social media post included additional claims about Smith and his family that have not been verified by authorities. Separately, the mother of Smith’s 6-year-old son posted on social media defending Smith’s ability to care for their child, according to the source material.

Police said the investigation remains active and that further updates, if any, will depend on the detectives’ findings.
