Work paused at Broncos facility after subcontractor death

Construction work at the Denver Broncos’ new training facility in Arapahoe County was paused Tuesday after a subcontractor died at the site, officials said. Workers found the individual unresponsive in a confined ceiling area at about 8:20 p.m. Monday. Emergency responders pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Turner Construction said it suspended operations while authorities examine the circumstances of the fatality. The worker’s name has not been released, and officials did not disclose a cause of death in initial statements.

Local law enforcement is investigating the incident, and federal workplace-safety regulators are expected to review the site under standard procedures following a workplace death. Officials said the timing of any restart will depend on investigative steps and any required safety clearances.

The Broncos said they were “heartbroken” to learn a subcontractor working on the project died on site and offered condolences to the individual’s family, coworkers and friends.

Investigation centers on a confined-space incident

Authorities said the worker was discovered inside a confined ceiling area, a detail that can draw additional scrutiny because enclosed spaces can carry heightened risks. Fire-rescue crews responded to the scene, but the worker could not be revived.

The construction pause is intended to preserve the scene and allow investigators to assess whether any workplace-safety issues played a role, including access controls, ventilation and on-site protocols. Turner Construction described the death as a “heartbreaking loss” for the worker’s family and colleagues.

Broncos Park project scope and timeline

The facility, known as Broncos Park, is a $175 million project spanning 205,000 square feet. The three-story complex is designed to consolidate the club’s football and business operations in one location.

Construction began in 2024 and the project has been scheduled for completion this summer. Officials have not quantified any schedule impact and said further updates would depend on the findings of the investigation and any subsequent safety reviews.

Authorities are expected to provide more information if the investigation determines a cause of death and whether any safety violations contributed to the incident.
