Como routs Lens 9–1 to set Champions League road scoring record
Como moved to fourth in the Champions League after a record-breaking 9–1 win over Lens, marking the most goals ever scored by a road team in the competition.
Como defeated Lens 9-1 on Wednesday in the Champions League, setting a record for the most goals scored by a visiting team in the competition's history. The victory moves the Serie A club to fourth place in the league phase standings.
The nine-goal performance ties the record for the most goals in a single Champions League match, previously held by Bayern Munich. Como has now recorded 19 goals across four matches in their debut season in European competition.
Tasos Douvikas scored a hat trick, becoming the third Greek international to achieve the feat in the tournament. Nico Paz added a goal and two assists, while Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina, and Matteo Papaccioli also scored.
"It has been a great night for Como, for all our fans, and for many of the young players who are just starting their careers," head coach Cesc Fabregas said after the match. "But we have to keep our feet on the ground, stay humble, and keep working hard."
Fabregas cautioned his squad against complacency following the result. "We must learn this now so we don't buy into our own hype or think that the job is already done," he said. "We have to learn to say: 'Okay, it was a good day, let's move forward and try to keep working.'"
