Commanders sign Brunskill, Petit-Frere for line depth

The Washington Commanders added two veteran offensive linemen, signing Daniel Brunskill and Nicholas Petit-Frere as the team continues to build depth up front ahead of the upcoming season. The moves follow the recent acquisition of Max Scharping and reflect an emphasis on strengthening the blocking unit before training camp competition begins.

Officials did not detail how the newcomers will be deployed, but the transactions position the Commanders to increase options across multiple spots on the line. Both additions arrive with starting experience, and each is expected to compete for roles as the roster takes shape.

Brunskill’s versatility across the line

Brunskill joins Washington after appearing in 117 career games for the San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins. His history of working at multiple interior and exterior positions gives the Commanders a flexible option who can be used in different alignments depending on matchups and injuries.

Last season, Brunskill played in 16 games for Miami and made five starts. That workload, combined with his broader career usage, gives Washington another experienced player who can challenge for rotational snaps while also providing coverage if starters miss time.

Petit-Frere brings starting tackle experience

Petit-Frere arrives after three seasons with the Titans, where he played in 34 games and started 28, primarily at tackle. The Commanders’ move adds a lineman with meaningful starting reps on the edge, a position group where durability and continuity often become critical over the course of a season.

Washington is also bringing in a player who already has familiarity with Brunskill. Petit-Frere and Brunskill overlapped for the final two seasons in Tennessee, a detail that could help as the Commanders integrate multiple new pieces into the same position room.

Roster moves made to fit new signings

To make room and remain within league roster limits, the Commanders made corresponding adjustments. Defensive tackle D.J. Davidson was placed on the reserve/retired list, and wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. and guard Timothy McKay were waived.

The transactions collectively point to a roster-building approach centered on stability and veteran depth along the offensive line. While roles will be determined during camp, the Commanders’ recent series of additions—Brunskill, Petit-Frere, and earlier Scharping—signals that competition for backup and rotational duties will be a clear focus in the weeks ahead.
