Professional Tennis Tour Merger Suspended Amid Financial Disagreements
ATP and WTA merger talks are suspended indefinitely due to revenue disputes, forcing the WTA to cut costs and restructure its event calendar.

The proposed commercial merger between the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has been suspended indefinitely. Negotiations stalled due to irreconcilable disagreements regarding the proposed revenue-sharing structure between the two organizations.
Internal leadership changes within the WTA have resulted in a rejection of terms previously negotiated by the former administration. The WTA, which reported significantly lower annual revenue than the ATP in 2024, has opted to prioritize independent financial restructuring over the proposed consolidation of media and commercial rights.
Tennis Professionals
Operational budget cuts are currently being implemented within the WTA, including reductions in event staffing. Furthermore, the organization has terminated its contract for the finals series in Saudi Arabia one year early, relocating the event to California.
While prize money remains stable for now, concerns persist regarding the long-term sustainability of tournament purses. Conversely, the ATP is moving forward with plans to reduce the scale of its doubles programs and decrease prize money allocations for those events.
