Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle class-action lawsuits alleging it misled consumers about the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, its artificial-intelligence system, according to court filings.
The cases were consolidated in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, and the settlement still requires a judge’s approval.
Plaintiffs alleged Apple oversold features promoted during the 2024 rollout, including promised upgrades to Siri and AI-generated notification summaries. Court filings said some advertised features were not available when certain iPhone models shipped in September 2024, while other features later faced problems.
The notification-summary feature was disabled asourceser it reportedly misrepresented news reports. In March 2025, Apple delayed the release of an upgraded Siri, citing quality issues.
Under the proposed settlement, consumers who purchased an iPhone 16 and some iPhone 15 models between June 2024 and March 2025 may be eligible to receive up to $95 per device, the filings said. Apple denied wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
The settlement comes as Apple faces intensifying competition in AI. Apple has said it plans to use Google’s Gemini to power its AI products, including Siri, asourceser initially positioning Apple Intelligence as a response to tools such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
