The Onion Seeks Infowars Acquisition The Onion, a satirical news organization, is pursuing the acquisition of Infowars, the conspiracy theory platform founded by Alex Jones. This potential takeover follows a Texas court's order for Infowars' parent company to sell assets to satisfy a $1.4 billion defamation judgment against Jones for his false claims regarding the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
Comedian Tim Heidecker is slated to become the creative director of the transformed Infowars, intending to convert the platform into a satirical entity.
The Onion's parent company, Global Tetrahedron, recently secured a potential six-month lease agreement for Infowars from a court-appointed administrator, valued at $81,000 per month, with an option for renewal. The long-term objective is to acquire all of Infowars' assets. However, a Texas court temporarily halted this deal on Wednesday, May 22, 2026, following an emergency motion filed by Jones's legal team. A new hearing is scheduled for May 28, 2026, to address the matter.
If the acquisition proceeds, Heidecker plans to parody Infowars' original content, adopting a persona inspired by Jones. This initiative aims to redefine the site's public perception and legacy. Jones has publicly reacted to the proposed takeover, condemning the plan on his broadcasts and social media platforms.
