President Donald Trump is preparing to impose new tariffs on dozens of countries as his 10% global duties expire later this week, officials said. Officials said options have been drafted that could be enacted as soon as this week; reaction pending.
Presidential tariff options
Officials said the packages under consideration would target dozens of trading partners and cover a wide array of goods. Officials noted the administration has already implemented a 50% levy on Canadian goods and a 25% tariff on Brazilian imports, measures they said remain in force.
Officials said the timing follows a recent court ruling that struck down reciprocal tariffs the president announced in April 2025. Trade-exposed industries, exporters and currency pairs linked to affected countries would be most immediately sensitive to any new proclamations, officials added.
Officials said the next steps would focus on which countries and product lines to include and on drafting the formal language needed for presidential action. A formal proclamation could be issued by July 24, 2026, when the 10% global duties are set to lapse; businesses and trading partners will watch for specific product lists, carve-outs and effective dates.
