Former President Donald Trump endorsed MyPillow founder Mike Lindell for the Minnesota gubernatorial race on Wednesday, providing a significant boost to his campaign ahead of the August 11 Republican primary. The endorsement centers on Lindell’s alignment with Trump’s platform, specifically regarding claims of election integrity, as the candidate seeks to secure the party nomination against a crowded field of rivals.

The entry of Lindell into the contest introduces new variables for the Republican party, which has already endorsed candidate Kendall Qualls. Recent polling data from the Star Tribune/KARE 11/Hubbard School indicates that Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar currently leads potential Republican challengers, holding 53 percent support against Lindell’s 36 percent in a hypothetical matchup. This gap remains the widest margin among all tested GOP contenders.

The campaign faces additional scrutiny regarding residency requirements, as Lindell previously identified as a Texas citizen in court filings. Lindell maintains he has re-established Minnesota residency to satisfy the state mandate requiring gubernatorial candidates to reside in the state for at least one year prior to the November 3 general election. The seat is currently held by Democratic-Farmer-Labor incumbent Tim Walz, who is not seeking a third term.
