Donald Trump deleted an AI-generated post showing him as a Christ-like figure after strong backlash from conservative and religious allies who found it unacceptable.

    02

The president defended the image, claiming it was meant to portray him as a doctor healing a patient, but this explanation did not quell the criticism.

This event is part of a pattern of controversial social media posts from Trump's account that have been removed after drawing widespread condemnation, including a previous incident in February.

President Donald Trump removed a post from his Truth Social account after it triggered swift criticism from conservative activists and religious leaders who said the image was inappropriate and offensive. The picture, described as AI-generated, portrayed Trump in a white robe with a glowing hand placed on the forehead of a man lying in a hospital bed. Critics said the composition closely resembled religious art that depicts Jesus healing the sick.

The pushback was notable because it came from figures generally aligned with the president. The image’s background included a collage of patriotic and symbolic elements, including the Statue of Liberty, an American flag, fighter jets, and an eagle. After the post was deleted, Trump addressed the controversy several hours later and said he viewed the image differently.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “It’s supposed to be as a doctor making people better. And I do make people better.” The deletion followed what the source described as a wave of sharp condemnation from prominent voices in conservative and faith-based circles, with critics arguing the imagery crossed a line by echoing sacred themes.

Sean Feucht, identified as a Christian activist involved in planning national faith-based events, called for the post to be removed. “This should be deleted immediately,” he wrote, adding, “There’s no context where this is acceptable.” Conservative activist Riley Gaines also objected, posting, “God shall not be mocked.” David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network criticized the image as well, writing, “This goes too far. It crosses the line.”

The episode came less than an hour after another contentious Truth Social post in which Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV, described as the first American Pope. Trump called the pontiff “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy,” linking the criticism to the Pope’s condemnation of the US military operation in Iran. In response, Pope Leo said he has “no fear” of the administration and would continue “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel.”

Trump did not apologize and reiterated his position on Iran, saying the Pope was “very much against what I’m doing.” The source also pointed to a prior incident in February, when Trump’s account posted and later removed a racist clip depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. The White House initially dismissed that episode as an “internet meme video,” then retracted the post and attributed it to a staffer’s error after intense criticism.

These repeated cycles of posting and deleting provocative material have drawn attention to tensions in the administration’s communications approach. The latest deletion underscores how quickly online content can generate backlash, including from supportive constituencies, and how such disputes can force public reversals while raising questions about message discipline.
