Tom Holland argues AI cannot replicate the human experience

Actor Tom Holland has weighed in on the role of artificial intelligence, stating that he believes artists and creative professionals are "safe" from the technology's reach. Holland shared his perspective during an appearance on a Spanish talk show alongside fellow actor Zendaya.

Holland argued that creativity is fundamentally tied to the human condition, an area where he believes machines cannot compete. "Creativity is safe from AI because creativity has to do with the human experience," he said. "It’s about emotions, it’s about understanding one another."

AI cannot understand emotion

The actor elaborated on his view by distinguishing between AI's data-processing capabilities and its inability to comprehend genuine feeling. He suggested that AI "doesn't have a soul."

“AI can sift through data, but it can’t understand people’s emotions. It doesn’t understand the difference between being happy and being sad,” Holland continued. He used the example of visual art to illustrate his point, explaining that human expression is the core of the creative process.

"The way artists paint, it’s not about what they’re copying, it’s about expressing themselves," he said. Based on this conviction that art is an extension of human emotion, Holland concluded that he feels secure in his profession. "So I feel protected," he stated.
