McLaren is creating 1,000 UK jobs with a £450 million investment, bucking the trend of downsizing currently seen across the European automotive sector.

McLaren will create 1,000 new positions in the United Kingdom as part of a £450 million investment in its Woking technology center. The expansion follows the company’s merger with electric vehicle startup Forseven Holdings and is supported by a broader $2 billion capital commitment from its owner, CYVN Holdings.
This investment contrasts with the broader contraction of the UK automotive sector, which is currently experiencing significant workforce reductions. Other major manufacturers are restructuring operations in response to declining sales, international trade tariffs, and increased competition from Chinese electric vehicle producers.
UK-based automotive firms face mounting regulatory and trade pressures, including upcoming 10% tariffs on electric vehicles exported to the European Union. Furthermore, the exclusion of UK-manufactured vehicles from European subsidy programs remains a critical risk factor for domestic production viability and long-term competitiveness.
