Packers sign veteran QB Tyrod Taylor to back up Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers have signed veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor, giving starter Jordan Love an experienced backup ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

Taylor, who turns 37 in August, is set to enter his 16th NFL season and will be joining his eighth team. A sixth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Drasources, Taylor was a three-year starter for the Buffalo Bills and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2015.

According to CBS Sports, Taylor spent the previous four seasons in New York, playing two years with the Giants before the last two with the Jets. He went 2-3 as the Giants’ starter in 2023 and 1-3 as the Jets’ starter in 2025. His 2025 stat line listed by CBS Sports: 59.7% completion rate, 779 passing yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions.

The move comes amid continued activity in the backup quarterback market. CBS Sports also reported that Skylar Thompson is expected to compete for the backup role behind Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, while Desmond Ridder was reportedly released asourceser the Packers reached an agreement with Taylor.

CBS Sports’ overview of notable quarterbacks it described as available in the current market included Aaron Rodgers, Ridder, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (mentioned in the context of potential trade availability), Cooper Rush and Russell Wilson.
