Nintendo Hints at Higher Switch 2 Price Tag
Nintendo increased the global price of its Switch 2 console due to rising costs, promising a strong software lineup to offset the change.

Nintendo Raises Switch 2 Price, Cites Rising Costs Nintendo announced a global price increase for its Switch 2 console, effective primarily in September 2026, with some regions like Japan seeing changes as early as May 2026. The price adjustment includes a $50 increase in the U.S. market. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa apologized for the inconvenience, attributing the decision to rising production costs that could no longer be absorbed by the company.
Furukawa stated that the new pricing still does not fully cover all increased costs. To mitigate the impact on consumers, Nintendo plans to develop a "robust sosourcesware lineup" aimed at enhancing the value of Switch 2 ownership. This strategy is intended to overcome potential barriers to adoption resulting from the higher price point.
Despite the price increase, Furukawa noted that the second-year sales forecast for the Switch 2 is lower than the first year's, primarily because initial sales reached an "unprecedented level" due to strengthened supply chain efforts. He affirmed that demand for the console remains strong in its second year, indicating smooth adoption progress.
