Agricultural Textile Innovation Increases Strawberry Yields and Reduces Pesticide Dependency
A patented 3D-knitted textile cover has been shown to triple strawberry yields while reducing the need for pesticides and optimizing water usage.

A newly developed 3D-knitted textile, designated as Plant Armor, has demonstrated the capacity to increase strawberry yields by up to 3.56 times in controlled field trials. The material functions as a physical barrier against insect pests while maintaining permeability for sunlight, rain, and airflow.
Beyond yield improvements, the textile provides a thermal regulation effect that accelerates plant development by optimizing growing degree-days. This advancement offers potential for institutional stakeholders to reduce operational costs associated with chemical pesticide applications and water consumption.
The technology originated from military textile research and is currently protected by U.S. Patent No. 11,582,968 B2. The intellectual property is licensed for commercial development, signaling a transition from academic research to potential large-scale agricultural implementation.
