Nscale Maintains $35 bn IPO Target Despite Microsoft Contract Termination
Nscale remains committed to a $35 bn IPO despite losing a Microsoft contract, now seeking to offset the loss through expanded partnerships with Anthropic.

Nscale faces potential operational risks following the cancellation of a compute capacity lease agreement with Microsoft. The termination resulted from infrastructure delays, specifically the inability to secure power for the firm's Essex data center until after 2030.
Despite the loss, Aker ASA, which holds a 23% stake in Nscale valued at approximately $3.31bn, characterized the agreement as a minor component of the startup's broader portfolio. The investor maintains that Nscale’s contract volume has doubled since its last funding round, mitigating the impact of the Microsoft exit.
Nscale is reportedly negotiating a significant expansion of its existing compute capacity agreement with Anthropic to bolster its market position. These developments occur amid broader industry skepticism, as analysts project that 80% of independent cloud infrastructure firms may cease operations by 2030. The company continues to pursue a $35bn valuation for its upcoming US initial public offering.
