MI5 Says Iran Targets UK Military Sites
Britain’s domestic security chief said a suspected September plot against a US-run air base was not isolated.

MI5 said Tuesday that Iran is targeting UK military sites, widening a security dispute that officials linked to a September plot against a US-run air base.
Ken McCallum, who leads Britain’s domestic security service, said Tehran is seeking to intensify attacks in the UK. Officials described the suspected September air base plot as part of a broader threat pattern, rather than a single case.
September air base plot
McCallum said the suspected plan to attack a US-run military air base in September was “not unique.” The statement puts military facilities, UK domestic security and Iran-linked activity into the same operational frame, with direct implications for allied defense sites on British soil.
The claim raises the risk of a tighter UK security posture around bases, defense contractors and diplomatic sites if officials assess that Iran-linked activity is continuing. For global macro conditions, the channel is geopolitical risk: higher perceived confrontation between Iran and Western governments can feed energy, defense and risk-asset pricing, even without an immediate market move.
For the UK security sector, the practical effect would be more demand on counterintelligence, police protection and military-site screening. For Iran-facing diplomacy, the next test is whether UK officials announce charges, sanctions or new protection measures by October 20, 2026.
