EU Leadership Signals Openness to UK Re-accession

The French President and Spanish Prime Minister have publicly signaled support for a potential UK bid to rejoin the European Union. This shift follows recent statements by the British Prime Minister regarding the long-term economic impact of Brexit and the necessity of defining a new relationship with the European market.

EU officials maintain that any formal re-accession or integration, such as joining the customs union or single market, requires full alignment with existing EU trade policies, tariffs, and the free movement of people. These requirements remain non-negotiable red lines for the bloc.

While the UK government has prioritized addressing its exclusion from European industrial subsidy programs, EU sources indicate that these issues will not be resolved at the upcoming November summit. France continues to oppose extending "Made in Europe" policy benefits to non-member states, emphasizing that the UK cannot selectively adopt EU market freedoms without full membership obligations.
