Law enforcement authorities have executed search and seizure warrants at the residence and office of a former LG Energy Solution executive. The investigation concerns allegations of professional malpractice involving the misappropriation of approximately 10 billion KRW in corporate funds.
Reports indicate that the former executive facilitated payments to a China-based consulting firm linked to his family members. These payments were allegedly disguised as advisory fees for government permitting and investment support related to LCD production facilities initiated around 2010.
Four LG subsidiaries
The contractual relationship persisted until approximately 2023, spanning the executive's tenure and subsequent transition to a consultancy role within the firm. Four LG subsidiaries, including LG Energy Solution and LG Display, initiated internal audits following whistleblower reports and subsequently filed formal criminal complaints earlier this year.
Investigators are currently analyzing seized materials to determine the legitimacy of the consulting contracts and the flow of funds. The inquiry focuses on whether the executive exerted undue influence to approve these transactions, potentially compromising corporate governance and shareholder value.
