Jio IPO demand reaches 30 times anchor book

Jio Platforms’ initial public offering drew anchor investor bids of 2.5 lakh crore rupees on Oct. 19, about 30 times the available 8,110 crore rupee allocation, deal data showed.

The demand gives the planned listing an early institutional marker before wider market pricing is tested. Anchor books are reserved for large investors ahead of a public offer and are often watched as a gauge of initial demand, though they do not by themselves determine post-listing performance.

Jio’s anchor book pressure

The 2.5 lakh crore rupee bid total compared with an anchor book size of 8,110 crore rupees, translating into demand of nearly 30 times the available allocation, according to the deal data. The figures point to a crowded institutional order book for one of India’s closely watched equity offerings.

For Jio Platforms, the immediate effect is stronger visibility on institutional appetite before the IPO moves further through the offer process. If that demand holds through allocation and public subscription, the company would enter pricing with more support from large investors; if orders are cut back or rotate elsewhere, the signal from the anchor book would carry less weight.

For India’s equity market, the mechanism is narrower but still relevant: a heavily subscribed large IPO can draw liquidity toward primary issuance and away from some secondary-market trades. The next dated marker is Oct. 19, when investors will look for final anchor allocation details and any update on the broader subscription schedule.
